October at St. Mark’s
Dear Friends,
We were mercifully blessed with some much needed rain these past few days. There are so many allusions to dry land and welcome rains in scripture. I can tell you this from my many visits to Israel. When it is dry in the Holy Land, it is dry. In the Negev Desert that means less than an inch of rain in a year. Very dry. It also means that one must develop strategies to procure and conserve water. The spiritual lessons here are rich. Reading and studying the Bible is one way to procure spiritual rain. One could say the same about prayer…and even about fellowship with other Christians. This is part of the reason behind our monthly fellowship times after worship.
And then, of course, since IT IS all about Grace, one notes that rain, when it does come, is a pure gift. We did nothing to deserve it or cause it. Grace is like that.
The sermon series coming up in the next four weeks deals with the groups of people in the time of Jesus. There were many more than are listed below, but these are the main groups that we read about in the Bible. My challenge will be to find Grace in every encounter Jesus had with these different groups of people.
